The United States Sports Academy was founded in 1972 as an independent, non-profit, special mission school of sport offering programs of instruction, research, and service nationally and internationally. The role of the Academy in higher education is to prepare men and women for professions in the areas of sports coaching, sports management, sports medicine, sports studies, and sports fitness. Over the past thirty years, the Academy has developed one of the largest sport education programs in the world. The Academy believes that there are societal needs with respect to sport that must be met, and by serving our nation and the world as the preeminent sport education resource, the Academy strives to meet these needs.
Both residential study and distance learning options are available for the BSS, MSS and EdD degree programs. The MSS program may be completed entirely online with the exception of comprehensive examinations that are held on campus and in conjunction with the Academy?s graduation celebration. The Academy?s sport programs are designed for the working professional and are structured to be flexible, affordable and convenient. The Academy offers two great options for the working adult in the sports world. The ?Two Summers Plus? combination resident program allows students the option of completing the master?s degree in one year. The ?Three Summers Plus? resident program allows students to complete the Doctor of Education in Sports Management degree or the Doctor of Education in Sports Management degree with an emphasis in either Sports Medicine or Olympism in three years.
ACCREDITATION
The United States Sports Academy is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the Bachelor of Sports Science degree (level II), the Master of Sports Science degree (level III), and the Doctor of Education degree (level V). The Bachelor of Sports Science, the Master of Sports Science and the Doctor of Education (EdD) in Sports Management degrees are on the approved list of the Sports Management Program Review Committee (SMPRC), a joint committee of the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) and North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM). These organizations are the leading professional groups in sport education and sport management, respectively.
FINANCIAL AID
A variety of financial aid programs are available to qualified students. Federal programs include Federal Stafford Student Loans and Federal Work-Study experience. Students interested in any of these programs should contact the Office of Financial Aid (financialaid@ussa.edu) to determine their eligibility.
APPLYING
The Academy works on rolling enrollment meaning all courses are offered all the time, any time. Applications are accepted at any time during the year. Please complete the response form to receive a full admissions packet of information.
DEGREES
M.S.S.: Sports Fitness, Sports Coaching, Sports Management, Sports Medicine, Sports Studies, Dual majors available.
Ed.D.: Doctor of Education in Sports Management, Doctor of Education in Sports Management with emphases in Sports Medicine or Olympism.
CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS: Sports Coaching, Sports Fitness, Sports Studies, Personal Training, Sports Management, Sports Strength & Conditioning.
SPORTS DIPLOMA PROGRAM: Sports Management, Sports Coaching
