In order for students to become optometrists, they must earn a Doctor of Optometry from an accredited school of optometry. Over the course of this four-year program, students spend time in both classroom and clinical settings as they acquire the skills they will need to provide professional vision care to patients. During programs of this nature, students receive training in such areas as ocular disease, geriatrics, binocular vision, movement and vision perception. Those who wish to assume roles as educators can pursue a Master of Science in Vision Science or a Doctor of Philosophy in the same subject.
