Interdisciplinary

Interdisciplinary studies at the master's and doctoral levels is the combining of two or more disciplines to create an area of study for which there is no self-contained major. In some schools, the major is interdisciplinary, such as Chicano Studies or Women’s Studies. In other graduate degree programs, Interdisciplinary Studies involves the student creating a unique program of study for personal or professional fulfillment. Those who choose this option typically work with an advisor to select courses that align with their professional aspirations. Using the advanced knowledge and skills they gain across multiple academic disciplines, graduates of degree programs of this nature often go on to work in fields such as business, politics and higher education.
